NJ Bill S.129 was important to me. I find cruelty to animals abhorrent. The lives of livestock are short enough. Those lives should not be lived in misery. I stopped eating pork when I learned how cruelly pigs are treated. I loved bacon and baked ham. But I stopped eating it. I participated in getting this legislation through--emails, petitions, and phone calls. Farming is a wonderful tradition. The use of gestation crates for female pigs that destroy any quality of life is not farming. Factory and farming are two words that have no business in the same sentence. Factory farms put family farmers out of business. I prefer to support farmers willing to raise livestock humanely. It is better for us and it is better for them. When NJ S.129 initially passed I was elated -- to have made a difference about something that I cared deeply about. Then Governor Chris Christie vetoed it. Why? I don't understand. I really don't. I have started this petition. Won't you join us? If you haven't signed my petition--please sign and share. Thanks!
(April 22, 2013) I have met a 26 year old white cockatoo in need of a good home. Cockatoos live to be 80 years old +. He will one day be a fine old man. Adopting a bird from the parrot family is a lifelong commitment. They are in fact, the kind of commitment that requires you to provide for them in your will. They are beautiful and intelligent beings that require both love and a lot of care. If you would like to know more please contact me. --Diane
